Weekly build logs from a staff engineer going to $1M on 90 minutes a day. Real numbers, bad ones included. The receipts from building an online business with family-first mindset.

Story

I've written code for 14 years. Staff engineer, event-driven systems, remote work, fintech.

I can build almost anything. For most of those 14 years I couldn't sell any of it.

So this isn't one product. It's the whole run.

$1M quest

I'm running a public quest to $1M in income-generating assets. Capital that compounds, not revenue vanity as a first milestone. I'm at roughly 10%.

Everything is tracked in Engineer of Wealth Newsletter.

I build tools on the way, that remove any blockers and help devs get faster where I head to.

The constraint

Full-time job. Wife, three kids, all homeschooled. My build window is 90 minutes in the evening plus a chunk of Saturday. No 5am hustle, no quitting to go all-in.

Everything I ship has to survive that. If it needs 20 focused hours a week, it's not a project. It's a fantasy until it pays for itself.

Why a portfolio, not a flagship

I spent four years on one thing: Hanami Mastery, open-source education for a Ruby framework nobody else was teaching. I loved it. I've spent a few years teaching 3,900+ students on Udemy. Loved it too.

While both projects went profitable, the revenue vs effort did not add up.

The lesson wasn't "work harder". It was: don't marry one product. Ship small, launch cheap whatever push you a bit futher, watch what people actually pay for, then kill it or scale it.

My brand, Engineer of Wealth is the umbrella for everything I'm shipping. The apps here are what's come out of it so far. There will be more, and some of them will fail in public - which I'll cover too.
